Research on Global Citizenship Education in Hong Kong and Shanghai Secondary Schools
Oxfam Hong Kong, the Center for Citizenship Education of the Hong Kong Institute of Education, the Department of Education of the Shanghai Teachers' University, and the Love Outreach Education Academy conducted a research in Hong Kong and Shanghai . This research aims to better understand the current situation of Global Citizenship Education in secondary schools, to identify the possibilities and difficulties to implement Global Citizenship Education in schools, and to explore appropriate and effective approaches for educators to strengthen their efforts.
The research covers the following areas in Hong Kong and Shanghai :
- Interest of secondary school students and teachers in international issues;
- Views of educators on Global Citizenship Education;
- The implementation of GCE in secondary schools, and the views of educators on the effectiveness of the current efforts;
- Difficulties which educators encounter in efforts to foster young people's international perspective and in helping youth define their roles as citizens of the local, national and global communities. Moreover, the support educators need to implement GCE.
